trophy

I've been bowling in the Chatterbox league for a couple of years now. No one is more surprised than me.

Like most things, the idea to bowl started with a beer and conversation with new friends. It seemed like a really good idea at the time. And so far it has been. I've meet some great people and turned acquaintances in to friends.

I'm subbing again this round, which fits better in to my crazy schedule. I don't feel so guilty about the times that I can't be there.

This morning, in preparation for the new season  I retrieved my bowling bag from where it had been shoved between the sofa and the bookcase for the last month. I unzipped the bag to discover a big wad of white socks. I took the time to toss the socks in the washer and grab a fresh pair. Which I left in the kitchen. I blame the cat.

I giggled as I purchased yet another $8.00 bag of  socks this evening...I was wearing a beautiful $4.00 thrift store coat, but I wouldn't dream buying of second-hand socks.

I was thrilled to find that I'd won a trophy last round. I had to miss the bowling banquet last month, so I missed the official presentation.

The team I subbed for was brand new and they thought they were bowling with a bad-ass competitor - after all I traveled with a trophy.

It took just one roll to shatter that notion.

Here's to getting back into the Monday routine of hunting socks, laughing. high-fiving and blowing the day's Weight Watcher points on a slice of pizza and a beer.

ummm, hi.

The longer I don't update this blog the guiltier I feel.
Vicious circle, really.

Some updates
- the tree never got decorated, but I did enjoy the lights and the festiveness.
- the holidays were fun, I even had two days in a row off one week.
- I had a blast on New Year's Eve -- and I was the designated driver! Check out the cool party hat Cara made me! It totally made up for the lack of midnight kissing partner.

- I've been working on more organizing and cleaning and purging the house. I made dressing room in the basement and moved all of my clothes down there. Mornings are a lot easier without running back and forth and laundry is a breeze, I just have to reach over to hang up the clean clothes instead of running things upstairs to my tiny closet.
- the closet project moved furniture out of my bedroom and prompted to put my living room television on the curb. I made room for a bookcase in the living room so all of the stacks of books are off the floor.
-I bought myself a record player for Christmas! Woo hoo! I'm enjoying listening to a mixture of nostalgic stuff (Dow Jones and the Industrials anyone?) to new releases.
- I was going to take a season off from bowling, but got talked into doing it again. It is fun!
- I've stepped up my writing gigs. Which is just the opposite of what I said I'd do. I'll have two features and six CD reviews in the next issue of Ghettoblaster, the Buzzing Around Town column is still going strong and I'm writing a monthly feature for NUVO about music radio deejays. I got to actually interview my first subject on the air!

Later gator!

six pack...

...of socks. Or in this case, sox.

I'm a bowler now, or at least in a bowing league. Bowling requires accessories, and generally I'm down with that. But I can't seem to get it together. You can rent the shoes and borrow a ball at the bowling alley, but you have to bring your own socks.

I even managed to find two white socks that matched this morning and left them on my coffee table. Next to the cat. And an empty popcorn bowl. I can either blog or keep the house picked up, okay people? Since this is my second round of bowling I've learned some tricks. Like you can buy socks at the drug store.

This evening I was clever enough to buy a six pack. I left the other five pairs in the truck. That will hold me 'til Halloween at least.

Not that I needed one more thing to add to my busy schedule, but bowling has been good for me. I've met a whole new group of people and gotten to know others better. It keeps me from working too late, at least on Mondays.

I thought I'd just be a sub this round, but two really fun people I met this summer asked me to join their team. Julie is in an MFA program for writing, which I think is the coolest thing ever. Kathleen and I bonded over the fact that we're both single and have to share a room with our parents on vacation. She is a career coach and has given me great advice on some workplace issues.

Now I just need to improve my bowling game -- there is no where to go but up, my average is 95.

And yes, I'm usually (okay, always) wearing a dress.
